Inside out is the first work of the Performative Environment series, exhibited during the Krakers Festival in 2015.
It has been realised within the exhibition entitled “The Shining” – that have determined its final form and undertaken topic.
The walls and the floor of the gallery room, that I have received to embody my work, adopted automatic writing of my thoughts in chalk. However, they have not survived till the end of the action – erased with clothes and shoes, whose owners were rolling through the space in dozens. In the very center of this room, on thick ropes, was hanging a heavy cube, dripping with white paint. Audience were entering carefully the room to the accompaniment of percussion music from behind the wall, and squeezing themselves between it and the above described walls. When the music stopped for a moment and the room was filled with a sufficient amount of people, I made the decision to destroy the cube with a stick.
After the first few dozens of hits, I proposed to several surprised looking people the participation in devastation (afterwards they gladly grabbed the sticks which I found in the room). Later, when the hanging colossus have clearly weakened. From its inside, a soft container with red, moist content have revealed itself. Few times I hit the white material that was covering it, to make sure that it will not absorb a punch designed exclusively for the red.
A moment, hit! one blink that have distinguished me-one moment ago, from me-now with the inside out. I smell flowers.
Later that evening, audience cheerful with entertainment or alcohol, through many night hours, vented their emotions by atomizing the white cube. Spots stained with red, fragrant liquid have become points that received the most anger and frustration in our fun. When big pieces were no more to be found and break – with the sense of fulfilled duty, and blisters on our hands, happy – we have left behind this, what we have worked so much on. At least no one felt guilty for this whole mess.
